Charity Auctions & the Art Whore
BIG WOMEN... the book by Vincent Scilla is now in print available from Blurb.com with lots of lovely women
Throughout the year especially Holiday season out goes the call for artists to contribute work for fundraisers.
A noble idea except for the fact that the artist gets no tax credit for the value of the work as a charitable deduction,
the auctions often have no minimum so the the artwork often sells for some humiliating amount and the artist gets no share of the sale as compensation for offering the work unlike the organization and its associates who are compensated for their efforts.
In short the artist is once again the whore. Find me a classy whore that works for free and I'll gladly join into your scam.
Show me the money... I don't need the so-called recognition when in fact all the kudos go the organizer.

Sometimes as an artist to get respect you have to say no.
Try it you'll feel better about yourself and people will not see you as some needy artist.
Romans Don't Jog...
Sighted early morning Rome 12-29-11...
a jogger perhaps a renegade Ivy-Leaguer getting ready for another day of cost analysis or marketing or whatever they do.
Romans don't Jog.... what a relief from fashionable Tribeca New York.
White Girls Rock and indeed they do!
The painting "White Rock Girls" is a celebration to those who rock and live to rock and rock to rock a rock.

New Year 2012
Tree Down ... yell "Timber!"
Whatever happened to the idea of art for the sake of art?
Whatever happened to the idea of art for the sake of art?
Should we declare A Brand-Free Art Zone and start handing out tickets for
bad judgement or lack thereof? A zone where no written explanations are allowed...
no wall text will be accepted. Just let the art do the talking.
Of course this is absurd as the shit that oozes out into the world by these uninformed charlatan impostors "posing" as artists, curators, critics & the like-as they march out into the world with their art&curatorial degrees from Yale ... loaded with
the restricted language and vision of academia.
It is all about brand, merchandising and the legions of "gagosian girls"( see Vogue October) promoting this overall crap.
It isn't fair and never has pretended to be but...
it is a game for the privileged few & their party guests
but...
but you don't have buy into it unless you are an equally predisposed vacuous follower
with the inability to exercise any judgement.
Here is the rub... the notion of judgment & the fear to express an opinion that might
be just that opinion that puts you among the "unbelievers" is scary or foreign to these folks and this group that must maintain order in order to profit and control their market; their little piece of turf.
You may ask who does this guy think he is ... say something.
As Gore Vidal once said, " Andy Warhol is the only genius I have ever known with an IQ of 60" and you can add Duchamp,Hirst and Koons as well.
But I can't really help myself because deep down I am a Marxist just
like Groucho..."whatever it is- I'm against it".
Oh Yeah.... Happy New Year Too!

Don't spend time with people who are always looking over your shoulder... they have nothing to offer and are quite frankly a bore. Life is too short for this especially when you reach September.
So let us focus...
So here it is, my book of baseball art from 1985-2010... 80 pages, 40 full color reproductions, printed on premium luster paper.
I am offering a 8x10 hardcover limited edition (only 75 copies) of the book which includes a signed archival print of the cover artwork "Ted slides safe" suitable for framing - book and print for $100.
You can purchase thru my Paypal account vscilla@gmail.com or email me to arrange payment. Price includes S&H.
Also, you can purchase the softcover without the signed print at Blurb.com in their bookstore $41

Knowing the work was done by a Chinese artist (not chinese-american or african-american or for that matter any dash-american) I cannot help but feel Chairman Mao when I look at the sculpture.
What "in the know" New York consultant got this job and I bet they have a number of Chinese artists to sell at Sotheby's.
Maybe Martin is gazing upon that city on the hill and holding a check marked "insufficient funds".

Merry Xmas 2010
Now, as I approach my 62d year year there is one thing I have learned over the decades; confidence in myself, in what I think and in my judgements. At this anxious Holiday time of gift giving; I have through with careful and studied help from my significant other overcome my nervousness of shopping in the woman's store and in particular the lingerie section. The engineering, the fine lacework and the wonder of it all; not so much a voyeur as a voyager.
Good God...am I becoming the Jack Nicholson character on the Paris bridge lamenting (cue the snowfall) the the idea that he has become the woman in the play? Well, something always has got to give. Merry Xmas to you all!
I am off to the bar to watch some hockey and get some serious senior discounts on my cocktails.
PUT LINGERIE IMAGE HERE
and by the way... Happy New Year and a Merry Winter Solstice to you pagans out there and throw in a Lunar Eclipse too!

Brand My Ass...plueeeze
"Santa Fe #2" vscilla 2010
Brand this, brand that and while you're at it...
brand my cat.
Branding it's not for cattle anymore.
How readily the people ooze up to this phony world of self worth and gratification is toxic.
No content inside the box ... no clothes on the king.
Sometimes America asks itself... "why do they hate us?"
Anyone listening?
Now to the branding of our national pastime...baseball.
Contrary to what to what MLB thinks ... baseball does not belong to them... it's not their property.
It is the property of generations of Americans dating back nearly 200 years; it's our mythology and legends... I don't need Mastercard telling me that.

Thank you San Francisco for humbling the mighty state of Nolan Ryan.
Enough gasbagging for now...
And now for that video... ArtBurn
The artist is in charge of controlling their production... periodically I assess what I have created and if the work does not pass the test of "would I want to exhibit this work?"... then I burn it. This is not a hasty judgement often one that requires decades.
I leave a few relics to mark the path that has lead me to today (as for the one's out there already... call me and I'll tell you to burn them or not).
