New Year 2012

Tree Down ... yell "Timber!"

Whatever happened to the idea of art for the sake of art?

Should we declare A Brand-Free Art Zone and start handing out tickets for
bad judgement or lack thereof? A zone where no written explanations are allowed...
no wall text will be accepted. Just let the art do the talking.

Of course this is absurd as the shit that oozes out into the world by these uninformed charlatan impostors "posing" as artists, curators, critics & the like-as they march out into the world with their art&curatorial degrees from Yale ... loaded with
the restricted language and vision of academia.

It is all about brand, merchandising and the legions of "gagosian girls"( see Vogue October) promoting this overall crap.
It isn't fair and never has pretended to be but...
it is a game for the privileged few & their party guests
but...
but you don't have buy into it unless you are an equally predisposed vacuous follower
with the inability to exercise any judgement.
Here is the rub... the notion of judgment & the fear to express an opinion that might
be just that opinion that puts you among the "unbelievers" is scary or foreign to these folks and this group that must maintain order in order to profit and control their market; their little piece of turf.
You may ask who does this guy think he is ... say something.
As Gore Vidal once said, " Andy Warhol is the only genius I have ever known with an IQ of 60" and you can add Duchamp,Hirst and Koons as well.
But I can't really help myself because deep down I am a Marxist just
like Groucho..."whatever it is- I'm against it".

Oh Yeah.... Happy New Year Too!

Fall 2011 Notes & News

"Red Hat" 2011

Baseball Book

BUY THIS BOOK (don't burn it)

Dear Friends,

Once again I have avoided the trap of an art rant... i thought about it but then deleted the whole mess. It gets down to "just take of your business and focus on what you gottado."

Don't spend time with people who are always looking over your shoulder... they have nothing to offer and are quite frankly a bore. Life is too short for this especially when you reach September.

So let us focus...

So here it is, my book of baseball art from 1985-2010... 80 pages, 40 full color reproductions, printed on premium luster paper.
I am offering a 8x10 hardcover limited edition (only 75 copies) of the book which includes a signed archival print of the cover artwork "Ted slides safe" suitable for framing - book and print for $100.
You can purchase thru my Paypal account vscilla@gmail.com or email me to arrange payment. Price includes S&H.

Also, you can purchase the softcover without the signed print at Blurb.com in their bookstore $41

Recent Observation....Martin Luther King statue in Washington, D.C.

Knowing the work was done by a Chinese artist (not chinese-american or african-american or for that matter any dash-american) I cannot help but feel Chairman Mao when I look at the sculpture.
What "in the know" New York consultant got this job and I bet they have a number of Chinese artists to sell at Sotheby's.

Maybe Martin is gazing upon that city on the hill and holding a check marked "insufficient funds".

To all that view this blog... please sign up as a follower. I am trying not to bother as many people as possible.

If it's Not Fun Don't do it

"Sugar Sugar... Honey Honey"
"Fine Day for Baseball" oil on paper ... Time to turn on the Radio and listen to the sound of the game.

"WHY" (photo montage)@POD gallery ... picture created 1977

"Sugar Sugar" by the Archies a radio pop classic with a sugar shaking rhythm rift that conjures sounds of Jamaican steel drums. What was so trivial in the early 1970's seems by today's pop musicality to be almost classical.

March 15, 2010 The Ides of March... Bloomington, NY ... 30 turkeys were sited walking in a line thru the woods in no particular hurry.

Posted Warning to all creative types....

IF IT IS NOT FUN DON"T DO IT... if what you're doing starts to feel like work...don't do it

The Picasso show at the Met NYC comes with sign before you enter warning of sexually explicit content ... proceed with caution? The power of art and the screwed up American attitude toward the naked body is still with us even in this time of rampant Internet porn and our profane media. Well done Metropolitan Museum of Art. Nonetheless, a good time was had by all.

One more note and I promise to shut up...

Tom Hanks to Meg Ryan in "You Got Mail" says he cannot understand Joni Mitchell's "it's clouds illusions I recall... I really don't know clouds at all." Well, Joni is obviously looking at a painting with clouds. You've got Art... Tom.

LATE BREAKING NEWS...
I will have five pieces in what promises to be an excellent exhibition of Baseball Art at the Springfield Art Association, Springfield, Illinois from 6-25-10 t0 8-21-10. Noted artists such as Benjamin Blackburn, John Haney, Margaret Wharton and a number of artists from the Jean Albano gallery in Chicago will be included. A catalogue is available. www.springfieldart.org

And now a little summer video...

Happy Valentine's Day

Early in the film Goodfellas all the boys are gathered at the local bar (which to me is very
reminiscent of the Golden Rule formerly of Kemare street back in the old neighborhood
Little Italy NYC )and this song is playing in the background. It must have been the third time I viewed this picture before I realized it was Mina my favorite Italian songtress. I wouldn't expect to hear it here but there you go Marty.
Nonetheless, a very popular love song for this lovers holiday.

Now for some art...

New work on paper for the spring blog...see you then.
Enjoy the Winter Olympics.

Greetings From Tianjin

Well folks what can I say of China that anyone who has eyes&ears doesn't already know...
let's just say it's busting out all over. However, there is the old China still hanging around some sidestreet.

Turnadot was staged for two nights in the Beijing Bird'sNest a la 2008 Olympic treatment; some where in this multi media frenzy an opera broke out. I think this would play good in Berlin and in certain parts of New York City. Forget the opera glasses and go for the telescope. Next stop the Meadowlands or Vegas?

As before shopping and food was fantastic.
Until later... back to the drawing broads at the board.
Look for "Country Girls"... pin-ups rooted in art history ; next time on the blog
